This course caters to learners who want to take their English from the level attained with their school-leaving certificate (approx. B-level) to a level that enables them to confidently engage in English-language academic and professional contexts. While not specifically geared towards any particular language certificate, it will be possible to tailor materials to learner’s individual needs and desires. 8 – 12 Teilnehmer*innen Life Advanced (National Geographic Learning)
Picking up a tradition started by my own mother here at the Volkshochschule (Honor Nuala Müllan-Hughes) and a request from former students, I wish to here offer a course in which we can jointly explore English through the medium of (contemporary) literature. Learners will be expected to read 50 pages per week on average. What we read is to be decided as a group and it is suggested we follow relevant trends in factual and fictional writing. You are encouraged to come to the first session with ideas of what you would like to read. To participate in this course you should have at least a good B1 level. 8 – 12 Teilnehmer*innen
In this course we want to create a space in which to engage with the English language at a level of profound reflection and address any questions you might ever have had about the English language. In so doing, you can of course set the agenda, but I will be very glad to provide some insights from the history of English, linguistics, the psychology and philosophy of language. I imagine that, as such, this course can also be a valuable complement to courses aiming for C-levels of the CEFR. 8 – 12 Teilnehmer*innen
