At our English and Culture Café we have informal, themed discussion sessions where participants practice speaking about everyday topics (travel, hobbies, food, news, art, music, and social customs) in English. The focus is on speaking and listening in a friendly, supportive environment, learning about different cultures, and sharing ideas and experiences while improving fluency and confidence. You do not have to be fluent in English to join in. Anything from a basic B1 level upwards will be enough to participate. For this format you do not have to register beforehand and it is free of charge. Just come by and join us.

Haben Sie Lust, Ihre bestehenden Englisch-Kenntnisse kreativ und spielerisch einzusetzen und zu verbessern und dabei Impro-Theater kennenzulernen und auszuprobieren? In unserem Impro-Englisch-Workshop erhalten Sie einen Einstieg in das Impro-Theater auf Englisch. Im ersten Teil lernen wir zunächst schrittweise die Grundlagen des Impro-Theaters. Im zweiten Teil werden wir dann gemeinsam Kurzformen des Impro-Spiels ausprobieren. Durch Aufwärmspiele schaffen wir zunächst einen Safe Space, in dem wir lernen, dass "Fehler" für den kreativen Prozess positiv sind. Wir beschäftigen uns mit der wichtigen Regel des Akzeptierens im Impro-Theater: Damit das gemeinsame Improvisieren gelingen kann, ist es wichtig, die Impulse der Mitspielenden als Geschenke zu verstehen und diese zu integrieren. Natürlich beschränkt sich unsere Kommunikation nicht nur auf das gesprochene Wort und so werden wir auch auf paralinguistische Strategien, wie Pantomime, Emotionen, Stimme und Körperlichkeit, eingehen. Der Workshop findet in englischer Sprache statt und ist offen für alle Teilnehmenden mit Englisch-Vorkenntnissen auf mindestens B1-Niveau. Vorkenntnisse des Impro-Theaters sind nicht erforderlich. Wir freuen uns auf alle, die neugierig, zugewandt und kreativ von- und miteinander lernen möchten.

In this course we want to create a space in which to engage with the English language at a level of profound reflection and address any questions you might ever have had about the English language. In so doing, you can of course set the agenda, but I will be very glad to provide some insights from the history of English, linguistics, the psychology and philosophy of language. I imagine that, as such, this course can also be a valuable complement to courses aiming for C-levels of the CEFR. 5 – 9 Teilnehmer*innen

Topics include effective communication, understanding social policies, and cultural sensitivity. The aim is to gain practical language tools and confidence for professional and academic settings in social work. 5 – 9 Teilnehmer*innen

Englisch ist die globale Lingua franca. Neben Ländern, in denen Englisch Muttersprache ist, und Ländern, in denen Englisch Amtssprache ist, dient Englisch weltweit Menschen mit unterschiedlichen Muttersprachen als Kommunikationsmittel: Auf Reisen, in der Bildung, Wissenschaft und Wirtschaft. Um sich erfolgreich zu verständigen, ist es daher nicht so wichtig, einen muttersprachlichen Akzent zu erreichen. Vielmehr steht die Verständlichkeit im Vordergrund. Egal, ob Sie eine Reise ins englischsprachige Ausland planen oder sich im Ausland auf Englisch verständigen möchten – dieser Kurs hilft Ihnen dabei. Mit Vorfreude auf unsere Reisen und ohne Druck üben wir typische Sprechsituationen (z. B. Buchung von Unterkünften, Bitte um Auskünfte, Wegbeschreibung, Geldwechsel, Mieten eines Autos, Restaurantbesuch etc.). Der Kurs richtet sich an Teilnehmende mit geringen Vorkenntnissen sowie an Teilnehmende mit guten Grundkenntnissen, die explizit Sprechkontexte auf Reisen trainieren und ihre Kommunikationsfähigkeit schulen möchten. 8 – 12 Teilnehmer*innen
