An informal, themed discussion session where participants practice speaking about everyday topics (travel, hobbies, food, news, art, music, social customs, etc.) in English. The focus is on speaking and listening in a friendly, supportive environment, learning about different cultures, and sharing ideas and experiences while improving fluency and confidence. You do not have to be fluent in English to join in. Anything from a basic B1 level upwards will be enough to participate. For this format you do not have to register beforehand and it is free of charge. Just come by and join us.

Haben Sie Lust auf ein Land, seine Sprache und eine ganz persönliche Begegnung? Bei der Reihe „Land und Leute“ treffen Sie Menschen aus verschiedenen Kulturen. Sie brauchen nur ein wenig Neugier und pures Interesse an Ihrem Wunschland. Unsere fachkundigen Leiter*innen durch den Abend treffen Sie als Gastgeber*innen zuhause oder in der vhs. Sie geben Ihnen in zwei Stunden einen Einblick in ein Land, das Sie vielleicht schon immer kennenlernen wollten. Treffen Sie auf Menschen aus aller Welt, lernen Sie einige Redewendungen in der Landessprache und erfahren Sie, welche Feste, Traditionen und Alltagskultur Ihr Wunschland zu bieten hat. Bei einer kleinen kulinarischen Kostprobe oder kulturellen Darbietung erleben Sie Länder auf verschiedenen Kontinenten mit allen Sinnen. Die Anmeldung erfolgt über die Volkshochschule Münster Land und Leute: Schottland Im hohen Norden Großbritanniens beeindruckt Schottland durch landschaftliche Schönheit, hohe Berge, tiefe Täler, wilde Küsten und unergründliche Seen. Zwischen der pulsierenden Hauptstadt Edinburgh und den faszinierenden Highlands finden sich einzigartige Bauwerke: uralte Steinzeit-Formationen, erhabene Burgen und historische Städtchen – bis hin zu modernen Designs der Gegenwart. Außerdem ist Schottland ein Land der Legenden, Mythen und Traditionen: Ob das Ungeheuer am Grunde von Loch Ness, Kilts, Dudelsäcke oder die Liebe zum Tanzen –, Schottland hat einiges zu bieten. Folkmusik und natürlich auch Whisky sind in Schottland sehr populär – im Film werden die Highlands von Harry Potter bis James Bond gerne als fotogene Kulisse genutzt. Politisch macht das Land durch den Drang nach Eigenständigkeit von sich reden. Matthias Eickhoff, Kursleiter für Englisch an der VHS Münster und Autor zahlreicher Reiseführer zu Schottland, hat dort gelebt und führt Sie durch ein Land voller Geschichte, natürlicher Schönheit und Kultur. In der Teilnahmegebühr ist eine kulinarische Kostprobe enthalten.

Englisch für die Reise Englisch ist die globale Lingua franca. Neben Ländern, in denen Englisch Muttersprache ist, und Ländern, in denen Englisch Amtssprache ist, dient Englisch weltweit Menschen mit unterschiedlichen Muttersprachen als Kommunikationsmittel: Auf Reisen, in der Bildung, Wissenschaft und Wirtschaft. Um sich erfolgreich zu verständigen, ist es daher nicht so wichtig, einen muttersprachlichen Akzent zu erreichen. Vielmehr steht die Verständlichkeit im Vordergrund. Egal, ob Sie eine Reise ins englischsprachige Ausland planen oder sich im Ausland auf Englisch verständigen möchten – dieser Kurs hilft Ihnen dabei. Mit Vorfreude auf unsere Reisen und ohne Druck üben wir typische Sprechsituationen (z. B. Buchung von Unterkünften, Bitte um Auskünfte, Wegbeschreibung, Geldwechsel, Mieten eines Autos, Restaurantbesuch etc.). Der Kurs richtet sich an Teilnehmende mit geringen Vorkenntnissen sowie an Teilnehmende mit guten Grundkenntnissen, die explizit Sprechkontexte auf Reisen trainieren und ihre Kommunikationsfähigkeit schulen möchten. 8 – 12 Teilnehmer*innen
