Picking up a tradition started by my own mother here at the Volkshochschule (Honor Nuala Müllan-Hughes) and a request from former students, I wish to here offer a course in which we can jointly explore English through the medium of (contemporary) literature. Learners will be expected to read 50 pages per week on average. What we read is to be decided as a group and it is suggested we follow relevant trends in factual and fictional writing. You are encouraged to come to the first session with ideas of what you would like to read. To participate in this course you should have at least a good B1 level. 8 – 12 Teilnehmer*innen
Are you interested in literature? Would you like to improve your English while enjoying a wide range of literary texts? This course is designed as a guided book club; we will read, enjoy and discuss various short stories or a novel by contemporary authors. Each session will allow you to improve your current language skills, while giving you the tools to actively participate in our roundtable discussions and related class discussions. We will also explore language and its use as a cultural expression, allowing us to move away from grammatical rules and structures to simply enjoy literature. Weekly homework in the form of readings, and/or reasoning and intellectual tasks are an essential part of the course; participants should be prepared to engage with the chosen literary work at home. This will allow them to actively participate in class and thus maximise their learning experience. Semester course for students with a good B2 level or higher. 8 Teilnehmer*innen
Unleash your imagination and discover your unique voice in this interactive creative writing course. Through guided exercises, group discussions, and supportive workshops, you’ll explore the essentials of writing fiction, poetry, screenplays, and creative non-fiction, and improve your English skills along the way. Whether you want to start writing for the first time or reignite your creativity, this course offers a welcoming space to experiment and grow as a writer. 5 – 9 Teilnehmer*innen
